Moose. 120907 Updated with additional photo!

While cutting the lawn I spied our neighbourhood Whitetailed Jackrabbit along side the house.
Tim and I got caught in some construction traffic, and we got away from town later than we wanted to. We stopped in at a ranch that I have been trying to get foot access to for some time. Jim was reluctant to discuss too much just yet and asked me to come back in December, so we will make another trip out at the end of the year.  We had a REALLY slow start to the trip with a squirrel and chipmunk the highlights. As evening began to approach we started to see a little more activity. A young bull was our first sighting at about 6:30.  He was about 300 yards off, and stopped when I gave him a little grunt, but then wondered off.
45 minutes later we found this Cow and her bull calf. She seemed preoccupied with something that we couldn't see.  She looks good and healthy.
Her calf is also looking very healty. We spent 12 minutes with this pair. He was so dark he looked like a bear when I first spotted him.
Things were really looking up. We spotted another cow, she looked like she was alone, then we ran into this beautiful representative of the specie.
We spotted him at about 200-250 yards away.  As we started approaching him he appeared to be totally indifferent to us being there. As we got within 100 yards he decided to laydown near the edge of the creek. We continued moving to within about 40-45 yards where we took our final shots. I am confident we could have easily managed another 15 yards, but why bother the lad just trying to grab a nap? This shot is at 210mm with no cropping. :)

A little closer look at this majestic animal. No crop.
So we finidhed up with 5 moose.  Two great encounters, that each exceeded 10 minutes, and provided great photos for memories for decades to come!  We finished the drive wiht a brief glimpse of a young bull elk. I hope everyone has a Great day.

I want to thank Tim for the additional photo for the Blog!
