To pick the thread up on the second half of our May Bird Count adventure, we started off with finding this little ball of fur enjoying a leisurley salad for lunch.
I managed to grab this decent shot of a dragon fly.
More sparrows, swallows and red necked Grebes. I just cannot resist trying to gett a better shot of a Red-windged Blackbird.
Then I was lucky enough to get a Yellow Warbler pop up over head. These are tough birds to find in the open, and even this one wasn't really open. But he had found something to eat.
And after lunch he insisted on breacking out in song. Love the colour of their feet.
While we had seen several Herons flying we did manage to find one on the water that gave us a crack at him.
All in all a long walk and a great day! 70 specie counted with many "common" birds not seen. It took about 2.5 hours longer than Dan had hoped for, but no complaints. Now I'll have to put an Owl post together to show the two families of owls that we spent time with.
