Back to the Grebe's 120706

Tim, after last week's visits to the Earred Grebes, wanted to check the progress of the eggs. So we headed out on Friday after work. first opportunity was presented by this juenile YHBB. I love the drop of water on his beak. The shot should be sharper.
Up the road a bit we found this Coot. Many people don't know that Coots don't have webbed feet, they just have these beautiful yellow feet. the bright sun made getting the detail in the beak accurate.
Almost immediately we found some American Avocets and plenty of these Lesser Yellow Legs.
We checked the Grebe's nests, Only 2 females were still on their eggs, the other had left and looked like there was one egg left in her nest. We headed over to where Tim has found a couple of Godwits in hope of capturing some images.  No Godwits but we find more American Avocets.
And what is better than finding a couple of young ones.  There were three that we saw on our little piece of the pond. I believe this is an appropriate representative.
As we cruised around we found some WFI's, but no images, we did find this Muskrat. Check out his claws!
And a couple of Swainson's. This one had a bird that it had captured. I'm liking the eye!
I decided to throw this fella in due to his colouration. Darker than a lot of Swainsons, a nice Cinnamon tone.
Closing out the drive we found this young mother that seemed to be very pleased with her two ducklings.
Then from teh other side of the pond, as if to say "don't be ridiculous!" came this mother with 11 trailing along behind:)
Our final bird of the evening was this Meadowlark, it seemed to be gathering bugs for its young:)
Jamie and I are headed out for Great Grey's again on Saturday Morning.  Hope you are having a Great Weekend.  I also wanted to acknowledge that I am glad to see my Russioan friends back and visiting the site.

Turbo!
